Many of the skills needed in Global Health are not taught in traditional health professional curricula. Though many health professionals have strong clinical skills, they lack some low-cost, low-technology skills that would allow their clinical experience and knowledge to be applicable in the global setting. These topics and skills include health system design, value chain mapping, leadership training, and ultrasound skills. Hence, the UCSF Global Health Core, within the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF, has designed a continuing medical education program to cover these topics using simulation, hands-on training, and workshops exploring effective global health delivery programs with today’s leaders in global health. Bootcamp attendance is limited to a group of 36 learners to allow for small group sessions, intimate workshops and active discussions. Experienced inter-professional UCSF faculty as well as international experts on global health delivery will lead the sessions.

Who Should Attend:

St. Marc Hospital Family Medicine Residency noon conference

The UCSF Global Health Bootcamp is designed for physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals who are looking to work within global health responsibly. The target audience are those with some experience that are looking for more in depth global health delivery education.

The Program:

This is an intense four day course with world experts in global health delivery .

This interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art education program is aimed at nurses, pharmacists, physicians or any health care professional committed to long term work in global health delivery. This course emerges out of the insight that the barrier to global health care delivery is not necessarily funding or knowledge of how to deliver health care: it is the ability to implement.  The ability to implement in resource constrained settings entails not only the will to serve but also the expertise.

Many of the skills needed in global health are not taught in traditional health professional curricula. These include multi-disciplinary topics such as health system design, value chain mapping, leadership training, ultrasound skills, servant leadership, and case studies in effective global health delivery programs led by experienced practitioners.

“The Bootcamp gave me better grounding, both practically and theoretically. A really useful course.”  – 2015, Bootcamper
